7-27-10

JCSC,

I know that we had told many of you that David and I were NOT planning on rescheduling the meet, but I need to send official word. We will NOT be making up the meet against Holston Hills that was canceled last week due to bad weather. We had two options 1) we could have rescheduled for this week right before City meet or 2) we could just call in a draw. We chose to just call the meet a draw because we feel that the team has worked very hard this summer, and we would like for everyone to be well rested for this weekend. If we had tried to make up the meet this week then things would have been hectic, and everyone would have been worn out. Instead we will be focusing on City meet for the remainder of the weekt, and be thankful that we at least got to swim some events before the storm blew in at the Holston Hills meet.

Here is the latest City Meet information. As we find out more throughout the next two days then it will be posted on the website.

For both Friday and Saturday:
Check in- 7:40am
Warm ups- 8:10am
Meet start- 9:00am

*****There is NO practice Friday for the 10 and under swimmers. The coaches will be at the meet with the 11 and up swimmers!!

We still need several parents to work for this meet. There is a list of the needed positions on the City page located on the team website. If we do not fill the required positions then GKAISA will take away points for every position not filled. If you can work during City Meet then please contact Tammy Hickle.

-Thank You

Parent Volunteers: Thanks to all of those who stepped up and helped with Time Trials. It was a great learning time for many. To have sucessful and efficiently run meets the rest of this season, we need you to work at least 4 halves of the regular season meets. Parent volunteers are essential to JCSC and we appreciate all that you do.

● JCSC Summer Schedule

Effective June 1, 2010 Mon-Fri. There are no weekend practices.

Morning Practices
Time: 6-8am Monday-Friday
Location: CNC
Group: “The Core” 13 and Up
(Younger age groups may attend this practice if they meet the requirements.)
**This year, we are calling the 6-8am practice “The Core”. We think that this is a great way to describe this practice for many reasons. Our goal is to create a practice that pushes swimmers to a new level of training. We will be swimming large amounts of yardage, leading intense dry land training (including multiple mile runs, abs, stretch cords, etc.), requiring 75% attendance per week, and expecting 110% effort from each swimmer. This practice is designed for the older swimmers( 13 and up), but if there is a younger(12 and under) swimmer who is interested in attending then they will be given a test set that will mirror what a normal set will be at the 6am practice. There will be no tolerance of lateness or absence unless there is a justified cause. Swimmers will also be required to keep a swimmer log that tracks their yardage, sets, and dry land along with coach feedback and swimmer reflections.

Time: 8:15am-9:30am
Location: CNC
Group: 10 and Under
**This practice is designed for the 10 and under swimmers. Our focus for this practice is to continue to teach our swimmers all four strokes and how to swim them in a race. We will focus on techniques to help them improve their previous knowledge of strokes. We will also teach dives, starts, and individual medley turns.

Time: 8:30am-10:00am
Location: JCOP
Group: 11 and up
**Our focus of this practice is to work on improving swimmer endurance, teaching more detailed stroke technique, and making each stroke more efficient. We will focus on starts, turns, and finishes as well.

Afternoon Practices

Dry land
Time: 4:30-5:00PM
Location: Outdoor Pool
Group:11 and Ups
** During dry land, we will be doing stretching, abs, calisthenics, running, and other forms of dry land training.

Swim
Time: 5:00-6:30PM
Location: Outdoor Pool
Group: 11 and Ups
**Our focus of this practice is to work on improving swimmer endurance, teaching more detailed stroke technique, and making each stroke more efficient. We will focus on starts, turns, and finishes as well.

Time: 6:30 to 7:30
 Location: Outdoor Pool
Group: 10 and Under
**This practice is designed for the 10 and under swimmers. Our focus for this practice is to continue to teach our swimmers all four strokes and how to swim them in a race. We will focus on techniques to help them improve their previous knowledge of strokes. We will also teach dives, starts, and individual medley turns.

Things to remember:
*Please arrive to practice 15 minutes early.
*Sometimes coaches will hold practice over a few minutes.
*Practice is where improvements are made and should be taken seriously.
*Due to JCSC having to share facilities with the community-please look at the biweekly summer newsletters and monthly newsletter to see if there is a change in practice times!

Thank you for your patience and understanding!!!!

Oct.2nd, 2009

Dear parents,

The fall season is officially underway and us coaches are extremely excited at the large and positive turnout that we have had over the past two weeks! We have a great team right now, and it is easy to see that the fall training season is going to be a successful one!

There has been a few questions about the schedule and groups. The groups are established to help each and every swimmer. Since the fall season is when we compete for pool time with three other teams plus the college, scheduling can and will be complicated. This is why we have come up with groups. These are there to help each age group get the best pool time and instruction possible. Please look on the announcements page at the group descriptions that has been up since Sept. 21st. They are very clear now, and your group MAY be different than what it was this past summer. This does not mean that your child has been moved down a group. We are going to use these groups to keep the swimmers together by age. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact either Coach David or Coach Sarah about this.

Swim & Tri will be here on Oct. 5th and 19th. They will have swim suits, googles, caps, and other merchandise available. This is a great opportunity to come and purchase something that your child may need and save a trip to Knoxville! Also, on Oct. 19th, Carly Piper, USA Olympian will be here as a guest speaker. We hope that all can come and meet her!

Thank You,
JCSC Coaches
